Plunging

I wanted you to return

even as a pillar of salt

but when I finally found you

you were already cold,

and the white sheet

above you was lighter

than any skin should be.

 

So I spoiled myself, climbed

in. Looted. Crushed my cheek in

to yours. It’s all true. My hands

blued into commas like anchors

cast in deep sea,

 

I was a wreck, I had to drown.
